Pregnancy week by week

Selected week:

You

The moving becomes more tiresome and you become tired faster. Braxton-Hicks contractions become stronger and if you did not know these before, then now you learn about these. If your baby is growing bigger, you could have problems with sleeping. Try to lie on the left side, as this is the best position to guarantee the unlimited blood flow to your organs and limbs. The body produces more blood and body liquids during pregnancy. The growing child presses on the veins in the vagina, the blood circulation in legs slows down and the accumulating liquid causes the oedema of legs and feet. Thus you could notice that it is more difficult than before to put shoes on and the tight socks and stockings could leave strong marks on the legs. The hands could be also swollen. During the night the oedemas of legs and hands should decrease. If this has not occurred and your weight gain within the last week has been over 500 grams, then consult your midwife or gynaecologist for early diagnosis of occurrence of pre-eclampsia, i.e. late toxemia of pregnancy.

Your baby

Your baby weighs now about over 1.6 kg and is about 40 cm tall. The baby’s lungs have developed and when being born now the child could breathe by itself. Its brain had smooth surface, but now the characteristic curves appear on it and brain cells start to add. The baby becomes more round, its skin is no longer wrinkly and the head is covered with hair. Soon it will turn itself upside down.

What to do?

If you work, then now 70-30 days before the estimated due date you have the right to leave on a pregnancy and birth leave. Do not struggle. Deal more with yourself and prepare for the birth of the baby. If you are not yet familiar with the family school, now this would be the best time. Resting and sleeping as well as minor training could give you energy. Try, for example, swimming, walking or doing exercises. Take more time for everyday activities and let the others lift heavy items.

Should you have any questions or concerns related to health and welfare of yourself or your baby, you can book a time for consultation of the gynaecologist.
