Giving blood tests

Giving blood tests at the Fetal Ultrasound Center

Blood tests can be given at the Fetal Ultrasound Center every workday. The date and time for blood donation must be confirmed with the administrator of the Fetal Ultrasound Center.

You can eat as usual before giving blood tests to check the necessary hormones for the OSCAR test and to assess. It is advisable to eat before blood tests for pregnancy registration and the glucose tolerance test.

Giving blood tests outside of the Fetal Ultrasound Center

Patients who live outside Tallinn can have blood tests at 14 different blood collection points across Estonia or an ultrasound examination during the later stage of pregnancy and a risk assessment of preeclampsia. You must book an appointment to provide blood tests with the help of our administrator.

  • A blood test for the OSCAR test can be provided in the 11th–13th+6 gestational week.
  • To assess the risk of preeclampsia, a blood test can be provided in the 19th-22nd and 35th-37th gestational weeks.

The accuracy of the OSCAR test is highest when pregnancy hormone levels are measured at the 11th gestational week, and the ultrasound examination is performed at the 13th gestational week.

Our administrator will help you calculate the exact size of your pregnancy based on the data you have provided and, therefore, recommend a specific date for providing a blood test. We advise you to have an ultrasound examination with your current gynecologist or midwife before your appointment with us to determine the size of your pregnancy and your due date.

Personal identification is required at blood collection points; therefore, please remember to bring your identification document when donating blood.

If you wish to have blood tests in Haapsalu, Kärdla, Rakvere, or Paide, our administrator will send you a referral letter by e-mail in advance, which you must print and bring with you to the lab. At blood collection points in other towns, you do not need our letter of referral to have blood tests.

  • At blood collection locations, no payment is taken on site for tests ordered by Loote Ultrahelikeskus.
  • You will pay for these tests at Loote Ultrahelikeskus when you come for your ultrasound examination. The blood sample collection itself is also free of charge.
  • If you wish to have additional blood tests that have not been ordered by Loote Ultrahelikeskus, you will need to pay for them yourself at the blood collection location.
  • For prenatal NIPT tests, blood can be taken only at Loote Ultrahelikeskus.

If you have given the OSCAR test blood outside of Tallinn, we advise you to arrive at the Fetal Ultrasound Center at least 15 to 20 minutes before your ultrasound examination, so that the midwife or nurse can measure your blood pressure, weight, and take a detailed anamnesis concerning the obstetrics. This information is necessary for the risk calculation program to calculate the fetal chromosomal risk and/or your risk of preeclampsia. Keep in mind that the risk calculations are more accurate when blood pressure and weight are measured on the day of the ultrasound examination.
