The Fetal Medicine Foundation has renewed the license for the OSCAR test for the Fetal Ultrasound Center until December 28, 2022.

13.01.2022

Dr. Marek Šois passed the mandatory annual external audit and the examination of the OSCAR test successfully.

To pass the exam, the following had to be done:

  1. presenting the results of the OSCAR test performed at the Fetal Ultrasound Center;
  2. taking a short online-based theoretical exam;
  3. providing 3 control images for each ultrasound marker.

Dr. Marek Šois was certified for all five OSCAR ultrasound markers:

  1. fetal nuchal fold;
  2. fetal nasal bone;
  3. blood flow of the venous duct;
  4. blood flow of the tricuspid valve;
  5. blood flow of the uterine arteries.

The OSCAR test license and the right to use the FMF risk calculation program for all ultrasound markers were extended until December 28, 2022 and the doctor's name was included in the list of audited ultrasound specialists on the Fetal Medicine Foundation' s website.   https://fetalmedicine.org/lists/map/certified/NT-specialist

In 2021, 592 OSCAR examinations were performed at the Fetal Ultrasound Center. The OSCAR test was performed on 18 women expecting twins (ie 3.5%) and 65 women who were pregnant via IVF (ie 12.4%).

In 2021, the following conditions were diagnosed at the Fetal Ultrasound Center using the OSCAR test:

  • 1 missed abortion
  • 6 severe developmental failures
  • Ventricular septal defect, location of the aorta above the septal defect, receiving blood supply from both the left and right ventricles, constricted pulmonary artery - tetralogy of Fallot
  • Ventricular septal defect, location of the aorta above the septal defect, receiving blood supply from both the left and right ventricles, constricted pulmonary artery - tetralogy of Fallot
  • Constricted aorta with a dysplastic aortic valve with pathological regurgitation. Small and round left ventricle with reduced contractility, bidirectional blood flow in the coronary arteries - critical stenosis of the aorta, likely a developing hypoplastic left heart syndrome
  • Bilateral cleft lip and palate
  • Absence of the fetal skull and partial breakdown of brain tissue - acrania/anencephaly
  • The small intestine located in the umbilical cord - umbilical cord hernia

  • 7 severe chromosomal pathologies
  • 2 trisomies of the 21st - Down syndrome
  • 1 trisomy of the 18th - Edwards syndrome
  • 2 46, XO - Turner syndrome
  • 69 XXY - triploidy

In addition, 1 fetus with mosaic Turner syndrome and 1 fetus with a pathological deletion in the long arm of the 18th chromosome.

During the period of 2011–2021, when 7087 OSCAR tests were performed at the Fetal Ultrasound Center, the sensitivity of the test was 100%. This means that none of the fetuses with Down, Edwards and Patau syndrome went undetected. By controlling the quality of our work, we give our patients a sense of security that the quality of the OSCAR test provided by the Fetal Ultrasound Center is always guaranteed.
